The Legacy of a Choral Icon.
A Mentor to Thousands.
Choral music is a profound means for creating unity in an age of separation.
Jerry Blackstone has spent a lifetime devoting himself to the choral art and sharing his musical dream with others. The film brings a message of humanity, beauty, and unity through making music together.
Jerry is truly a generational talent, forging excellence through inspiration, artistry, and dedication to detail. He has left in his wake a community of changed lives for those who have had the opportunity to work with him. He is a two-time Grammy Award winner, a pioneer at training the male voice, a brilliant conductor, and a master educator.
Jerry's past students and choristers include leaders, professional performers, teachers, and advocates for the arts. They can be found at the Metropolitan Opera, on Broadway and teaching at top universities across the globe. You will also find a contagious passion amongst those who have had the honor of his instruction, whether they are in music or not. The imprint he leaves on those he trains is one of great artistry and love for the power and privilege of making beautiful music together.
This film follows the milestone moments of his 30th and final year of teaching at the University of Michigan. It is a tribute to a choral legend, a behind-the-scenes look at the art of conducting and a reflection on career and retirement.
We sincerely hope that after seeing this film you will be inspired to join in making music with others.
